Jennie Born: March 1,1994 Died: September 8, 2003 Jennie joined our family in 1994 along with her two brothers and one sister. Her mother, a cat that was able to run the neighborhood, had a litter of kittens by our house. Due to the weather being cold, and my soft heart, I could not let these two day old kittens stay outside to die. So we took in the kittens and the mother. We contacted the neighbor to say that we had them, thinking that she would want them and she didn’t. All she wanted was the mother. We told her that after the kittens were weaned that she could get the mother back. We ended up having them in the house and watched them grow and play together. Jennie was a sweet little girl. When they were really young, she was the one that we thought would be the most independent, but she ended up being the most loving of the girls. Jennie joined the rest of the family, still with Pequeno` and Liquor at that time, along with a couple of dogs. We were surprised at how well all of them got along. That saying about dogs and cats fighting sure didn’t work in this house. The funny thing was, all of the kittens were the same color as the other two. So we ended up with a house full of orange like tabby cats. When people would come to the house, they had no idea how many cats there were here because they were all the same color, and they usually ran and hid from others. You could say that Jennie was our hunter. She would find and catch bugs and even any mouse that was brave enough to come into the house. Unfortunately, it was the last mouse that she caught that actually caused her death. The mouse not only caused her to become flea infested but was carrying some disease that took our poor little girls life. It was so sad that she went down hill like she did. Jennie was such a good cat and very loving. When she wanted attention she would just jump up on the arm of the chair and rub against you. She would lay on your lap for an hour or so and sleep. She didn’t care if you would pet her; just to know that you were there was the main thing. Jennie is missed by all of us. Her brother and sister also miss her. It is strange that her siblings, after losing two of them last year about a month apart, really started to change. We still have Tres, Scamper and Abby with us. They are all ten years old now. We hope that they can stay around for a long time. Nancy Rodgers |
