Brutus the Buckeye

Brutus was my mother and father in laws best friend. He was tragically killed on the morning of January, 17th, 2008. My mother in law called, sobbing, said Brute just got killed on the road....
Brute never went to the road...
Seeing him lie on the kitchen floor, his large, solid body, was cool and seemed so small. Not the 96lb dog he was.
He was gently caressed, and cried upon.
Brutus was like a child to them. Their beloved Boxer was now gone.
No more running through the house with Brute, feeding him pizza off the table, sleeping with him, giving him treats at the same time every night after he laid his head on mom's chest.
No more dog toys all over the house.
We are all just heartbroken.
Garrett is only 3, does not talk, but had a connection with Brute that no one else had. He placed his hands in an outstretched way, looked around, and made his version of a dog bark.
My mother in law loved Brute so much, as much as a mother could love a child.
I am hoping that time will ease their pain, that they will find love in another boxer, and know that Brute loved them as much as they loved him.
