Lucky Santa
Born: December 25, 1995
Died: March 6, 2006
Our dear little chocolate cocker spaniel, heaven sent at Christmas time by rescueing angels, has left us on March 6, 2006. You were the sweetest spirit that could be--the perfect little buddy. You blessed us for so long. It is painful to part, but we must let you have your wings. So, in loving memory of the wonderful little guy who is so special to us, these verses I write for you.
HAPPINESS WAS...
*A tennis ball from my hand, you leaping in mid-air on legs of
magic sprinds; your mouth a mit. A snuggle in the waterbed on a
cold winter's night. Chasing a big white duck from his hiding
place in the reeds, me barely hanging on-all just 2 short weeks
ago. Racing the squirels to the tress and losing the race --
laughter and joys! Teasing the little lizards outside the
glass doors. The bow on your head amongst the Christmas
wrappings each year.
Being content to share the same patch of carpet at my feet.
Rides in the car, walks in the neighborhood--you with your
perfect sits and heels, the gentleman, always. Being the best
of buddies--growing up the kids and seeing them off to college,
then staying by my side ever since, my devoted companion.
Sneaking into the dorms to see Jen, and the college apartment
to see Chris--what devilish bliss. Sharing it all with you,
dearest best friend. Be brave for your new adventures. I will
try to be brave, too. Rest well sweet boy. you have earned your
wings. I grant them to you. It was we who were Lucky to have you
in our lives. May heaven greet you with the hero's welcome you
deserve. Until we meet at the bridge, I set you free in the love
of the years, Our dear and faithful Lucky Santa.
