Leta Arlene Rodgers

Born: January 7, 1918

Died: March 29, 2010

Leta was my mother in law for the last 26 years but unfortunately lost her life to cancer. She was married to Earl Rodgers who preceded her in death. When she died I was not divorced yet from her son and she still loved me and considered me as family. She told me one day that she would always love me and pray for me. Josh, her grandson, and I am going to miss her because we were not able to spend any time with her this last year. We always enjoyed it when she would go down to Robinson and spend time with us. The time we shared then was more quality time together and so it meant so much more to us. She loved to go shopping and go to the dollar tree and the cheaper stores with me. She said that I always knew where to go shopping at for bargains. When she came down one time I had to go to Evansville, IN because I had a doctor’s appointment so we took her with and went shopping, out to eat at Red Lobster and then back home. She had such a good time. She had never been to Evansville before so she said that was another place she could say she had been. Josh would surprise her and bake her bread when she was down and usually she had some to take home with her too. She always said how sweet that was of him to do that.

She made the comment when she was down once that she wished she had an entertainment center like mine so when we got a different one - we took her my old one. I bought her several things for the house and she was always appreciative of everything that she got. Whether it was new or used, she didn’t care. She always told everyone what I had given her.

We always played cards together and she said that whenever she taught me a new game that she knew she would only win once – the first game when she taught me and I usually won every time after that.

Leta, I pray that you knew how much Josh and I loved you and how much we are going to miss you. You were a good woman, had a lot on your shoulders with family situations, but you still loved those that left the family. You were always there to listen and took on the problems of the family yourself and with God. I remember you telling me when Dennis moved back home because of filing for divorce that you were getting too old for all of this. You said that you didn’t want us to get a divorce. I told you how sorry I was. I knew that it wasn’t just Dennis but other family problems that you were talking about.

You would sit in the morning at the kitchen table and do your Bible study and always liked the books that Josh gave you and read them as part of your study. When I came to see you there were about 6 books or so that you went through every morning along with the Bible. You were a great cook and baker and I will miss your coconut cream pies that you made me. You were a good neighbor, good friend to others and a good Christ ian. You will be missed by many because of the love that you gave to everyone.

God Bless you mom and thank you for being my mother in law and Joshua’s grandmother. We will never forget you. You will always have a place in our hearts.
